8”x2” pine heart tea scoop

$115.00

As a pine tree grows to old age it deposits resin in the juncture between trunk and branches. The wood becomes so resinous that a century after the tree has naturally rotted away these hearts remain as cone shaped treasures scattered on the forest floor.

I split each one carefully to make two useable halves where possible and carefully hollow them with gouges. Once the rough channel is made, I spend hours sanding each scoop under flowing water, needed to prevent the sandpaper from filling with sticky resin. The scoops are sealed first with hemp oil, then a hemp oil beeswax mixture to lock away the pine aroma. In time your scoop may begin to smell of pine again in which case any beeswax based wood finish will work to shine it up. Each scoop is naturally imperfect with the rough exterior preserved. Pine heart is so dense that it sinks in water (please don’t test this). It is hard but can be brittle so please treat your scoop with the care deserved by these natural gems.
